Beltane falls around 1st May, halfway between the spring equinox and midsummer. Hawthorn blossom opens in the hedgerows, bluebells cling to their deep colour, and the scent of wild garlic is beginning to fade. In the old calendar, this is the first day of summer, a fire festival, a time of new beginnings. This KS1 session plan marks that day outdoors, through story, observation, and making.

Centred on the original folklore story May Eve and the Mischievous Fairies, the session moves children through a welcome circle and perimeter walk, the folklore story, fairy house building at the roots of trees and hedges, Beltane weaving with natural materials, Moon Bread cooked at the fire, and a mindfulness close. Includes a welcome and goodbye song, detailed SEND adaptations, and full KS1 curriculum links.

A complete, ready-to-deliver outdoor session for KS1. Three hours.
