The autumn equinox falls around 23rd September, when day and night stand equal before the darker half of the year begins. Blackberries still hang in the hedge, rose hips and haws are swelling, and swallows gather on the wires before they leave for warmer climates. This KS2 session plan marks that balance outdoors, through story, berry spotting, and making.
Centred on the original folklore story The Last Patch, the session moves children through a welcome circle, a perimeter walk spotting rowan, blackberry, and rose hips, corn dolly making from grass and wheat stalks, building a seasonal space for the dolly from fallen leaves and bark, Blackberry and Apple Compote cooked over the fire, and a mindfulness close. Includes a welcome and goodbye song, detailed SEND adaptations, and full KS2 curriculum links.
A complete, ready-to-deliver outdoor session for KS2. Three hours.
