How to use Wild Together plans
Wild Together plans are designed to support outdoor learning that is responsive to children, place, and season. Each plan includes practical adaptations for children who need a different pace, more movement, or a quieter way in. They are guides rather than scripts. You do not need to follow them step by step or use every activity.
Each plan provides:
- A clear session focus.
- Suggested rhythms rather than fixed timings.
- Activity ideas that can be revisited.
- Prompts for noticing, questioning, and reflection.
- Learning opportunities, including curriculum links where relevant, to support planning and reflection.
- They assume adults will make decisions in response to their group / child and the place on the day.
- Termly plans are designed to build gently across the year, including gradual and age appropriate introduction of tools and maerials
The Session
Before the session:
- Read the plan once to understand the focus.
- Spend time noticing the area you will be learning in and current conditions (weather, hazards etc.).
- Choose one or two elements from the plan that feel appropriate.
- Prepare only what you need.
- Leaving time and space often leads to deeper engagement.
During the session:
- Hold the focus lightly.
- Offer invitations rather than instructions.
- Allow children to approach activities in different ways.
- Notice patterns over time rather than seeking immediate outcomes.
- Mindfulness does not need to be a separate activity. It may happen naturally during snack, while walking, resting, or sharing a moment of quiet attention.
Safety, fire, and tools:
- All activities assume appropriate risk assessments and policies (if necessary) are in place.
- Fire is always optional, where included, it is intended to support warmth, rhythm, or shared experience,it is never essential.
- Tool use should follow your own judgement or procedures and reflect the age and stage of the children.
