Beltane falls around 1st May, the old calendar’s first day of summer, halfway between the spring equinox and midsummer. Hawthorn blossom opens in the hedgerows, the scent of wild garlic is beginning to fade, and the days are at their longest. This KS2 session plan marks that threshold outdoors, through story, enquiry, and making.
Centred on the original folklore story May Eve and the Mischievous Fairies, the session moves children through a welcome circle and perimeter walk, the folklore story with discussion, fairy house building at the roots and hollows of the site, Beltane weaving with natural materials, Moon Bread cooked over fire, and a mindfulness close. Includes a welcome and goodbye song, detailed SEND adaptations, and full KS2 curriculum links.
A complete, ready-to-deliver outdoor session for KS2. Three hours.
