Beltane falls around 1st May, halfway between the spring equinox and midsummer. Hawthorn blossom opens in the hedgerows, bluebells hold their last deep colour, and the dawn chorus reaches its peak. In the old calendar this is the first day of summer, a fire festival, a day of edges. This home education session plan marks it.
Centred on the original folklore story May Eve and the Mischievous Fairies, this session invites children to look for hawthorn blossom in the hedgerows, build a fairy house at the roots of a tree or hedge, weave a Beltane weaving from natural materials, cook Moon Bread over fire or a camp stove, and close with a mindfulness moment as the warmth settles.
Designed for home educators and parents working with their own children or small mixed-age groups. Activities are open-ended and adaptable. No forest school setting required.
Includes: full session guide, activity prompts, conversation starters, resource list, and the complete folklore story.
